Neil Cowley Revolution 9 EP To Be Released Next Week

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

The Neil Cowley Trio plays Ronnie Scott’s club in London on Thursday night, just ahead of the release next week of The Revolution EP download.

The trio – pianist Neil Cowley, bassist Richard Sadler and drummer Evan Jenkins – first made an impact in 2006 with their album Displaced on Cowley’s Hide Inside imprint, which went on to be voted album of the year at the BBC Jazz Awards.

On the Cake label EP, as well as the ‘Revolution 9 ’ track written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney which has its origins in a special Mojo magazine covermount CD last year themed around The Beatles (based on the White Album side four track, recorded in 1968), there are three other cuts written by Cowley: ‘Rank Outsider’, ‘Kalabis’ and ‘Sherif Cul De Sac’.

Cowley is best known for his work with acid jazz 1990s group the Brand New Heavies and more recently electronicists, Fragile State. He went on to break new ground when he formed the NCT and released Displaced. The “augmented chord” follow-up, Loud… Louder… Stop which came out last year, added new depth. The trio’s third album is expected next year.
