Ornette Coleman Meltdown Line-Up Announced

The main line-up for Meltdown, curated by Ornette Coleman, at London’s Southbank Centre in June is: Philly hip hop freestylers The Roots (13 June, Royal Festival Hall); saxophonist David Murray plus the Gwo-Ka Masters from Guadeloupe and former Prime Time bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma (13 June, Queen Elizabeth Hall); for the first time in the UK, the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band plus Sean Lennon and Cornelius (14 June, RFH); Senegalese singer/guitarist Baaba Maal (15 June, RFH); alt rockers Yo La Tengo (15 June, QEH); Play singer/songwriter and Ornette neighbour Moby (16 June, RFH); vocal innovator Bobby McFerrin (17 June, RFH); singer/poet Patti Smith plus The Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra (18 June, RFH); Ornette Coleman, Reflections Of The Shape of Jazz To Come plus Moroccan group the Master Musicians of Joujouka led by Bachir Attar in support (19 June, RFH); bassist Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra plus pianist/composer Carla Bley and singer Robert Wyatt and in support alt-jazz trio The Bad Plus (20 June, RFH); Ornette Coleman Reflections Of This is Our Music and Master Musicians of Joujouka led by Bachir Attar (21 June, RFH).
