Steve Smith’s Vital Legacy, Joshua Redman and Pat Martino for Ronnie Scott’s

Monday, February 23, 2009

Leading drummer Steve Smith is bringing a special Vital Legacy line-up into Ronnie Scott’s from 9-11 March that combines his two bands Vital Information and Jazz Legacy.

Vital Information, which Smith formed in 1983, is one of the longest running jazz-rock bands while Jazz legacy, as the name suggests, is dedicated to playing hard-driving straight-ahead jazz. Vital Legacy will feature alto saxophonist Andy Fusco, keyboardist Mark Soskin, guitarist Vinny Valentino and bassist Baron Browne and the repertoire will be drawn from both bands. Also booked for three nights at Ronnie Scott’s in March is the Joshua Redman Band who will no doubt be playing selections from his brand new double trio album Compass, released last month, while Pat Martino pays a rare return visit for three nights in April. Dates so far for Ronnie Scott’s, that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, are: Funk Affair (1 March); Georgie Fame (2-7 March); Elliot Henshaw Band (8 March); Steve Smith & Vital Legacy (9-11 March); Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra plus special guests (12 March); Clare Teal (15-18 March); Joshua Redman Band (19-21 Mmarch); Ronnie Scott’s Blues Experience (22 March); Dave O’Higgins Quintet with Eric Alexander (23-25 March); James Taylor Quartet (26-28 March); Soul Family (29 March); Sarah-Jane Morris (2-4 April); Funk Affair (5 April); Pat Martino (9-11 April) and Ronnie Scott’s Blues Experience (26 April).
