Vortex sets sail for evening cruise with Liane Carroll and Barb Jungr

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

The Vortex club in London is holding its first evening jazz cruise sailing down the Thames next Thursday on 17 September.

Celebrated vocalists Liane Carroll, whose last album with Brian Kellock: Live At The Lampie was released earlier this year, and Barb Jungr, fresh from her sell-out run at New York’s Café Carlyle will each perform a 45-minute set with their bands on board a luxury replica paddle steamer.

The boat departs from Butler’s Wharf Pier by Tower Bridge and will turn at London Bridge before sailing east to Canary Wharf, Greenwich and the Thames Barrier before returning to Butler’s Wharf by 11pm. Drinks will be available from fully stocked bars and a selection of bowl food will be prepared by onboard caterers. Half of the profits will go to the Vortex Jazz Foundation, a charity dedicated to promoting jazz in London through commissions, workshops, and scholarships. A further cruise will take place in December. Tickets cost £32.50 each and must be booked in advance, with boarding taking place from 7.30pm.
