Alec Dankworth Trio

Thursday, November 30, 2006

British double bass ace continues his family’s much deserved reputation as one of the UK’s most significant in jazz with a startling new trio featuring the absurdly gifted Julian Arguelles on tenor and Phil Robson on guitar; Dankworth has inherited all of the good taste and heartfelt emotion of his father’s sax playing, possessing a dark-warmth to his solid bass playing.

Condensing his experiences with Stéphane Grappelli, Abdullah Ibrahim, Nigel Kennedy and Van Morrison (and many others) here his live band features the exceptional talents of Robson on acoustic and electric guitars and Julian Arguelles on soprano and tenor sax; this is a trio that makes broad stylistic brush strokes creating deeply beautiful, melodic jazz.
