Apollo Saxophone Quartet profile

Tuesday, October 10, 2006

Hugely acclaimed the Apollo Saxophone Quartet  play pieces by Richard Rodney Bennett, Django Bates, Bob Mintzer and Michael Nyman,

to name but a few, working with everyone from Julien Arguelles and Iain Ballamy to Mike Gibbs, the group thrive on performing challenging and original works. ‘Journey Across the Impossible’ was written by the group to accompany an hour-long compilation of early black and white movies from the 1900s, including the famous ‘Georges Melies Trio of Cinema Wonders’ and the humorous ‘Dream Of Rarebit Friend’, the newly written scores extending the meanings of these bizarre, often thought provoking films. In concert they combine these works with a set comprised of pieces from their vast and varied repertoire creating a quirky, sometimes poignant mix of music and images.
