David Axelrod

Thursday, November 30, 2006

Now in his fifth decade as a musical force to be reckoned with, maverick composer,  songwriter and arranger David Axelrod means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

From his work with the Electric Prunes, Lou Rawls, Cannoball Adderley, DJ Shadow, the UNKLE project and Thom Yorke, plus the dubious honour of being sampled by the likes of Lauren Hill and Dr Dre (great for publishing rights all the same), his unique approach to music has surreptitiously crept into the mainstream. Axelrod’s cavernous drum sound and baroque orchestrations pioneered a surreal sound, always possessing an otherworldliness that is at once both soothing and disconcerting.
