Quantic Soul Orchestra

Thursday, November 30, 2006

Generating momentum over a year’s worth of gigs and a triumphant set that positively shook the Glastonbury Jazz World stage, Will Quantic’s fuzzy-funk fuelled Orchestra have created some hypnotic grooves on their album Mishaps Happening (Tru Thoughts).

As a DJ, Quantic knows how to spin some deep jazz-soaked tunes, but he’s done the thing so many DJs can’t by starting a band that are themselves becoming worthy of sampling, as they fuse everything from Afro-beat to authentic-sounding 1970s Blaxploitation grooves, with soulful vocals, jazz solos and heavy percussion. Laced with a similar raw energy and feel to the Meters-on-speed vibe of the New Master Sounds, this is a serious live band just hitting the high gears, make sure you feel their righteous noise live.
