Ramon Valle profile

Tuesday, October 10, 2006

Cuban piano sensation Ramon Valle  has said “We are working on a new route into Cuban jazz, which is not 100% Cuban, but 100% ourselves. I don’t want to follow the standard definition of Latin Jazz that everyone knows,"

which goes some way to describing his definition of new Cuban music. Based in the Netherlands since 1998 the distance from his roots has distilled a new strength in his playing, while his powerhouse trio knocks the daylights out of preconceived notions of how his country’s musical traditions should be interpreted, all of which can be heard on the original compositions from his new CD ‘No Escape’ out now on the ACT label.
