Although it is worth noting that the family vocal trio made more of an impact in Europe than in the States – which itself is part of a long history of musical prophets-as-strangers – one should also point out that these recordings are a great example of the proximity of genres in music. Andy Bey's considerable skill as a pianist as well as the excellence of the vocal arrangements and orchestral scores convincingly open the door to the jazz club, yet the zest, energy and sheer electricity that flow through the music also make it part of a bigger house of R&B and rock ’n’ roll. The fact of the matter is that there are great dance tunes as well as fine listening material on this tasty package of songs culled from a RCA session, and a very scarce French EP originally issued by Fontana. Roughly speaking, much of the music here is not a million miles from the febrile close harmonies of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, though the Beys aren't as florid and no less exciting for it. Among the contributing musicians, the likes of American, French and France-based Americans – Kenny Dorham, Barney Wilen and Kenny Clarke – feature to good effect.
