The GE150 Pro provides guitarists with two hundred factory effect presets, ensuring that there is an effects chain for any musical scenario

First released in 2019, the GE150 was a massive step up from the early Mooer pedals. More complex and more advanced, it was launched to offer guitarists a much wider choice of sounds. Somewhat larger than the signature minimal Mooer footprint, it apparently (according to the marketing) gained a popularity, which together with the recent advances in pedal technology, persuaded Mooer to make the decision to upgrade the unit to produce the GE150 Pro.

Building upon the myriad features of the original GE150, the GE150 Pro in Mooer’s own words, "provides guitarists with two hundred factory effect presets, ensuring that there is an effects chain for any musical scenario".

Furthermore, 55 high-precision preamps and 26 high-quality cabinet simulations are provided, meaning that any effects chain can be perfected with its optimum amplification tone. The pedal also supports the loading of up to 10 third-party impulse response cabinet simulations. adding to the versatility of the GE150 Pro’s functionality.

Perhaps the most obvious change from the GE150 is that the GE150 Pro has four footswitches as opposed to the GE150’s two. This Mooer tell us, ‘has also come paired with an upgraded effect chain control logic, allowing guitarists to utilise all four footswitches for enhanced flexibility when switching between different patches during performance’. There are also multi-function systems that have been built into the pedal’s intuitive user interface. Along with this, and high-quality 2.8"″LCD screen, the GE150 Pro, in common with all pedals in the GE series, also includes an expression pedal. This pedal comes with multiple functions and features a ‘toe tap’ allowing the player to switch from expression to volume control mode.

Like the GE150, the GE150 Pro also has an 80-second stereo looper function built into it, along with 40 drum machine patterns and 10 different metronome modes. All of these rhythmic and looping features can be controlled through the four multi-purpose foot switches. The device includes all industry-standard connections including a mono ¼” input and stereo ¼” outputs, as well as an ⅛” auxiliary input and an⅛⅛” headphone output. There is also a very useful USB output which allows for real-time on the go recordings and through connection to a computer, gives the user the possibility to manage tone and effect presets, load third-party cab impulse responses, and update the GE150 Pro with the latest firmware update.

Connected up to the house Little Jazz amp, it took a while to fathom out how the multiplicity of features built into the GE150 Pro could be combined to create the soundscape we were looking for; but simple things like the tuner and the expression pedal functioned perfectly.

But when it came to making the choice between the sound sample of (we assume) a Fender Twin and Tweed, we realised that only the most discerning of ears would have half a chance of being able to tell the difference between the two. Consequentially, we were left wondering whether the GF 150 Pro is really just too complex and clever for its own good! In our humble opinion, Mooer got it right with their earlier and more simple and straightforward minimal footprint models, which slipped so sweetly onto a pedalboard.

The GE150 Pro will no doubt ignite a creative spark in some players. So for interested parties there are two models: the standard mains-powered option and the GE150 Pro Li, which comes with an impressive nine hours of battery life through an integrated lithium battery.
