Boasting some of northern Europe's hottest young jazzers, Association PC let rip with five albums between 1970 and 1974. This was their second, and the first of two live albums in which, according to the liner notes, they set out to ‘transcend the boundaries of traditional forms’ of music. That means lengthy, improvised suites full of seething, ring-modulated electric piano, Terry Riley-ish organ ragas, and spontaneously erupting up-tempo jazz-rock freak-outs. Overall, its volatile mix of prog, jazz and improv is a little reminiscent of the improvised sides of Henry Cow's double live album Concerts – while the stand-out track, ‘Frau Theunissen’s Kegel' is a driving jolt of prog-fusion with a freak-fuzz guitar solo in which Toto Blanke sounds as if he's auditioning for Phil Miller's role in Matching Mole. With a large and enthusiastic audience baying approval, you have to wonder, how on earth did Association PC end up in out-of-print limbo?
