This follow-up to their 2016 collaboration exploring the work of The Beatles, Come Together, sees the duo of Jungr and McDaniel exploring 17 tracks from Sting's capacious songbook. In the CD booklet notes, Jungr states that when she came to sing this music, she “discovered the depth, the geography of [Sting's] writing”. As a listener, the duo cast these songs in such a completely new light that it's as if you're hearing them for the first time. The album is bookended by a brace of songs from The Police's 1983 album Synchronicity, ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger’, underpinned by McDaniel's hard-driving piano, and an artful reimagining of ‘Every Breath You Take’. From Sting's 1993 album, Ten Summoner's Tales, ‘Fields of Gold’ is delivered with the affecting directness of a folk song, while Jungr's harmonica intro to ‘King of Pain’, coupled with McDaniel's sorrowfully chiming piano lines, combine to create an entirely different atmosphere from the original. Taking its inspiration from Anne Rice's debut novel Interview with the Vampire, the duo's expressive take on ‘Moon Over Bourbon Street’ is another standout, as is ‘August Winds’, excerpted from Sting's 2014 musical, The Last Ship, and performed solo here by McDaniel.
