Penning memorable, adeptly arranged songs and fronted by their charismatic co-founder, Beate S. Lech, Beady Belle are one of Norway's greatest musical exports. This 3CD collection – a ‘Best Of’ double album plus a live CD – is absolutely chock full of the finest songwriting culled from their six studio albums, from the 2001 debut Home to their most recent collection, Cricklewood Broadway, released in 2013. Whether it's the bubbling analogue synths of ‘Saved’, the minimalistic funk of ‘Self-Fulfilling’ (featuring India Arie), the haunting, eastern-sounding refrain of ‘Big Balloon’ or the richer, almost chamber ensemble palette of ‘Shadow’, the band have developed a happy knack of effortlessly drawing you into their world, and ensuring that you want to linger there. As anyone who saw them play at the 2013 ReVoice! Festival can testify, they deliver an exceptional live show, which makes disc 3 (A Night At The Theatre', recorded at the 2013 Oslo Jazz Festival) a real treat. The unexpected shift from minor to major mode that suddenly lights up the end of ‘Come Home’ always sends a shiver down the spine.
