Roger Odell used to be leader of 1980s jazz funksters Shakatak, but don't hold that against him. His new band Beatific, featuring vocalist Jacqui Hicks and saxophonist Mornington Lockett, are from the same mould if a few degrees jazzier and lighter on the funk.
