A cautious three-star rating for this collection of 1934 sides by Goodman before he found fame, and his band was yet to find its full complement of star players and arrangers – rather thin boxy sound doesn’t help, despite such gems as ‘Nitwit Serenade’ and ‘Music Hall Rag’.
