A mainstay of the 1980s downtown scene, Bobby Previte introduces a new quartet, his first touring band in a decade live at the 12on14 club in Warsaw. It's made up of three relative newcomers to the Brooklyn scene that clearly have an affinity to the experimental rock/garage punk music and attitude that Previte has amalgamated since the 1980s with his free jazz and jam band instincts. Well known for his affiliations with John Zorn and Wayne Horvitz, Previte can be a skilful wide-ranging composer-arranger but, in the case of his Visitors band, the writing draws more from extended rock song-based structures. It's freshly packed with the kind of electric blast and raw, spontaneous thrust that stays in your head well after the CD has stopped spinning.
