Where once rock musicians got it together in the country, this is the sound of instrumental rock being taken apart there, disassembled into suspended mood pieces and atomised pastoral reveries During a dozen years and 10 albums mostly spent on Rune Grammofon, Bushman's Revenge have been heavier. But for their debut on kindred Oslo label Hubro, their interaction as a trio is ineffably balanced rather than weighty The relentless pebble-tumble of Rune Nergaard's drums on ‘Toten’, for instance, gradually draws attention from Even Helte Hermansen's stalking soprano guitar, like the matching details of a painting. ‘Greetings to Gisle’ then simmers instruments down to skeletal, discrete parts, which reconstitute into recognisable hard rock as if out of the primordial muck. Crepuscular electronic atmospheres mesh these pieces, as in the absurdly titled, mournful ‘Folk Kremtar No Av Og Til Berre I Lause Lufta Og’, which could be the spooked soundtrack to a double-moonrise on a hostile, Ridley Scott-created world. ‘Moves Away From the Door’ relocates to a gorgeous meadow, where guitar and drums merge, and delicately echoing, woody percussion supports an insistently lovely, folk-like melody. The concluding, 14-minute ‘Hei Hei Martin Skei’ recalls Radiohead in its near-orchestral arrangements and lush, proggy guitar, as Bushman's Revenge relax into their destination, getting it together in the end.
