Perhaps not one of the finest moments in Charlie Haden's extensive catalogue. Not only does Haden's instrument often appear to be poorly miked, but Chet (just six months short of his sad death) sounds exhausted. In much the same way as many of today's tenor sax players have come under the influence of Coltrane, contemporary pianists frequently reveal an affinity to Bill Evans. With over 60 albums to his credit, pianist Enrico Pieranunzi is one of their number and seems to be the most focused here. Yet the general feeling is that this is just another one of those take-the-money-and-run sessions. And, finally, do we really need yet another rendition of ‘My Funny Valentine’ from a world weary Chet?
