Back together again, as in reviving the protagonists' fruitful partnership in Eleventh House, but this woeful recording bares little comparison to that band's inventive days. The opening ‘Beneath The Earth’, with its high-energy drum-roll entrance and the Mahavishnu arpeggios suggest we may be in for some unashamed rocking. And you can imagine a young Metheny taking notes from ‘Transvested Express’ (curious monicker, methinks). But the overall vibe is underwritten by Mouzon's love affair with disco. The result is the bizarre dance floor chant of the title track, and the even more surreal ‘Get On Up’, which sure ain't no James Brown cut. This disco funk yoked to a monster power riff could be a Zappa style pastiche but, no, this is for real. Quite where Catherine fits into the palaver is also baffling. File under ‘Are you pulling my plonker, sunshine?’ And where's the health warning on the sleeve notes? You'll go blind trying to read 'em.
