This is a very personal and, it must be said, intimate and intricate vision of a jazz and Indian music fusion. While Chris Potter is the leading voice in this ensemble, there is also plenty of room for Dave Holland and Zakir Hussain in solos, exchanges with other instruments, shading the ensemble densities and simply giving the music the infectious momentum that carries the listener through each track. Holland has spoken of how he sees the eight original compositions that comprise this album as essentially dance music – he has a point. The music may be subtle, its nuances understated, but it seems to demand a physical response in return, be it tapping your feet, trying to emulate Zakir Hussain's contagious rhythms using your thighs as bongos, or yes, getting up and moving in time to the music. But be warned, you could slip a disc trying to dance to ‘Lucky Seven in 7/4.
