Dave Liebman's name crops up most frequently in relation to his time with Miles and yet he's done so much more since then and is one of America's most adventurous musicians. This meeting with Evan Parker is a summit of great musical minds. Both Liebman and Parker have their own distinctive sounds on their instruments and yet at times, there appears to be a merging or coming together, as if each one is paying tribute to the other. By turns explosive and reflective, this is high energy music for frantic times. Drummer Tony Bianco, though less well-known, brings an amazing energy to this performance but it is his technique that really astounds, being to the drums what circular-breathing and over-blowing is to the saxophone. At times it sounds more like a drum choir than just one guy at the traps. It's hard to digest it all in one sitting but this is free jazz of the highest order.
