Growing up in 1960s New York, a teenage Steve Dalachinsky caught the beat bug and took up his pen in earnest. Later he'd reignite familiar associations between jazz and poetry, collaborating on sessions with the likes of William Parker, Matthew Shipp, Mat Maneri and Daniel Carter, building on the visionary foundations of the three ‘L's (Langston, LeRoi and Lawrence). For The Fallout Of Dreams he hooks up with old Brooklyn buddy Liebman, couching a sassy séance of phrases articulated in nasally Big Apple tones. Succulent metaphors, tripping lexicon and humorous wordplay (“rain on my charade”) irradiate the pang of nostalgia's fading echo and celebrate the sublime madness of free improvisation (tracks are dedicated to Steve Lacy and Evan Parker, as well as Jack Kerouac and Jackson Mac Low). In his subtle accompaniments Liebman wavers between understated incidental music and wrapping his saxophone's voice around the rich syntax of its human counterpart. But most affecting is his hypnotic flute playing, imbuing ‘Carry On Clarion’ and ‘Magical Realism/La Fenice Medley’ with the air of Buddhist pagodas in the spring.
