It's difficult to keep up with David Linx's output, such is his prodigious work rate. A typically eclectic 12-track collection, Rock My Boat sees the Belgian singer and composer joined by the terrific US-born, Paris-based Hammond B3 organist Rhoda Scott plus the equally estimable French drummer André Ceccarelli. The album ranges from the subdued beauty of Richard Rodney Bennett's ‘I Never Went Away’, featuring supremely understated chordal support from Scott, to the feel-good title track with lyrics by Linx and music by Diederik Wissels, as well as invigorating horn charts arranged by Laurent Cugny. As a singer Linx is equipped to take on the most fiendish technical challenges: I can't recall hearing notes flying past faster than on ‘Even Make It Up’. Joined by the Brazilian singer-songwriter Lenine on ‘Letter To My Son’, Linx can also slay you with a ballad. The core trio is joined by a superb roster of guest musicians including Nguyên Lê on guitar, Paolo Fresu on flugelhorn and Julien Lourau on tenor/soprano sax.
