For Gillespie fans the prospect of three tracks from Have Trumpet Will Excite plus an extended blues played by the same quintet live in 1959 (four months after recording the album) is a great fi nd. The icing on the cake is a relatively well-recorded Brubeck set from the same 1956 festival as Ellington's famous triumph.
