Quite a line-up, this one. Noble, who has worked with Ingrid Laubrock, Julian Siegel, Mary Halvorson, Evan Parker and Shabaka Hutchings among numerous others, is one of the finest British improvisers of his generation on his chosen instrument. The same could be said of reed player Dunmall, known, for instance, for his work with Mujician and the London Jazz Composers Orchestra. Sanders and Edwards, finally, are the UK's go-to free improvisation rhythm section. It's probably quicker to list the freely improvising musicians with whom they haven't worked, although their work with Evan Parker is particularly remarkable. Happily, on these three tracks, the sum lives up to what we might anticipate from the constituent parts. This kind of material is always best experienced in a live setting if possible, but this is likely to be one of the best UK improv albums of the year.
