A Gilles Peterson favourite, this Brazilian vocalist and analogue keyboard specialist has under his belt a few hip recordings on a 1970s retro soul-R&B pop tip. Here Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott Heron and Steely Dan are a few of the main reference points. While his topical lyrics are welcome, the well-honed formula sounds in need of an upgrade.
