Here's an unalloyed pleasure from two masters of their art: and there is much art in these fleet fingered maestros, don't let the po-faced ones tell you different! Stern and Johnson originally hooked up on Stern's splendid Big Neighborhood and live gigs soon followed. Each guitarist has a big voice, with Johnson perhaps the more soulful, more rock oriented (but there's plenty of Wes in their too, notably on ‘Tidal’). Elsewhere, Mrs Stern brings her African vibe to ‘Bigfoot’, making sure there's a lyrical quality behind the yomping, stomping guitarism. Somehow a smokin', live in the studio feel has been maintained and the result is one big unadulterated guitar smile. Just ‘Roll With It’, as Milligan roars on the tone-setting opener.
