Characterised by a palpable sense of restraint and a search for a song's inner kernel, Five Minutes sees vocalist Inger Marie Gundersen bring nine covers entirely within her own singularly beautiful sound-world.

Bathed in a kind of celestial glow, Gundersen's voice blends seamlessly with Torjus Vierli's crystalline piano in the Gretchen Peters-penned title track, before guitar and percussion imperceptibly slide into the texture. Heavily coloured by Kristian Frostad's impeccable guitar work, ‘Sailing’ becomes a magical, sotto voce incantation with unexpectedly gorgeous reharms. The take on Paul McCartney's ‘My Valentine’ possesses an almost confessional quality, as if the singer is gently whispering the lyrics in your ear.

Other highlights include the translucence and emotional directness of the show tune ‘We Kiss in a Shadow’ (from The King and I) and the light-as-air sound of ‘Wild Horses', while the conversational intimacy of the organ/voice duet 'Why Worry’ has you hanging on the singer's every note. Tiny textural details continually delight the ear, such as the shimmering synth pad which prefaces 'Narrow Daylight', the Elvis Costello/Diana Krall song which Krall recorded on her 2004 album, The Girl In The Other Room. Absorbing and moving in equal measure.
