Well known for his work with singer Viktoria Tolstoy, as a trio leader Swedish pianist Jacob Karlzon shares much more than just his nationality with Esbjörn Svensson – compositionally, improvisationally there are happy echoes – but where EST drew on rockier dynamics, on this new disc Karlzon openly embraces pop. The first pair of tracks have a midtempo radiance about them that will make them more than acceptable to MOR-oriented listeners while the presence of a piano solo version of U2's ‘I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For’ might lead you to presume that the title track is a Take That cover; it isn't (thankfully – there are genre boundaries across which no man or woman, however talented or well meaning, should ever transgress). That said, as the record progresses, Karlzon experiments with sound and mood, hittingly a pleasingly gritty groove on ‘Outsourced’ and riding a cinematically, trip-hoppily skittering beat on ‘Metropolis’, while ‘One More Day’ is an out-and-out ambient winner.
