How many world-class jazz recordings have slipped through the cracks simply because they lacked proper distribution? Here's a good example: a collection of six scorching original tunes from a highly mobile trio led by German pianist, Haider, originally released as a private pressing of just 300 copies, which has more or less sunk without trace since. American drummer, Blairman, who most famously played with Albert Ayler before settling permanently in Heidelberg in 1971, went on to collaborate on a couple of albums with pianist Mal Waldron -and you can hear some of Waldron's neat, cerebral swing in Haider's playing here. Elsewhere, on tracks like ‘Seasons’, Haider digs into the Fender Rhodes for trippy jazz-funk, while ‘Kollektiv’ delves into twitchy free-jazz. But the standout track has to be the opener, ‘Tante Nelly’ – a tough, rolling, latin-tinged groove that's made it onto at least one compilation of German jazz in the last decade or so.
