John Minnock began his career singing in the Boston area, but has now become a regular on the jazz and cabaret scene in New York City. He describes himself as a new-breed vocalist, who alongside the standard repertoire introduces new compositions, mainly by composer Davis Shire, that deal with aspects of contemporary gay life. An assured tenor with a range of over an octave and a half, he is neither sentimental or demonstrative, confident enough to allow solo space for both Liebman and Lewandowski, who give continuity to the mood and emotional climate created by the singer. A good example of Shire’s songwriting skill and Minnock’s interpretive ability is the title track, while ‘He Was Brazilian’ uses the full extent of the singer’s range in a declaration of his sexuality over bossa rhythms, “There are so many similarly fun, flirty and sexy Bossa Nova songs,” says Minnock, “and now there’s one for the LGBTQ community.”
