A tribute to her late father, the Nashville soul singer Kenneth 'Scat' Springs, who fronted his own band and sang backup for everyone from Garth Brooks to Aretha Franklin, Run Your Race is the first album from Kandace Springs to feature almost all original songs. The plaintive title track is a soul-stirring reflection on navigating the bittersweet journey of bidding farewell while clinging to the essence of a cherished father-daughter bond. Famously championed by Nina Simone, the classic ‘Wild Is The Wind’ holds a special place in Springs’ heart, a song which her father introduced to his daughter during her formative years and a testament to the enduring power of shared musical legacies. Other highlights include the head-nodding groove of ‘Pulse’, the pure intimacy and tender confession of ‘Look’ (co-written with her father) which features Springs accompanying herself on Fender Rhodes, plus the touching ballad ‘If I Had My Way’.
