‘Go whistle!’ Kyle Eastwood (perhaps) told his dad, legendary film actor and director Clint, before going into the studio to lay down the tracks for his 2004 debut album on Candid, Paris Blue. Whether he uttered those words or not, Papa Eastwood pursed his lips and blew to provide the hook on his son's cover of the 1938 song ‘Big Noise (From Winnetka)’, which opened that disc and versions of which bookend this compilation of top tunes from his recordings for Candid across the next half-decade or so. The selection of numbers on Candid Kyle was made by Eastwood (junior) himself and highlights his smoothly atmospheric style of jazz composition and playing. ‘Marrakech’, also from Paris Blue, shows off his cinematic sensibility, which he's also applied to a number of film scoring projects. Dancefloor, fusion and post-bop all make their influence felt, while, among an interesting line-up of sidemen, Ben Cullum provides the vocals on ‘I Can't Remember’, from Eastwood's second Candid album, Now, and Andrew McCormack brings great piano licks as well as songwriting smarts to much of the post-Paris Blue material.
