Primarily recognised as the remarkable voice that accompanied her late husband Sonny Sharrock's electric guitar on such free jazz epics as Black Woman (1969) and the astonishing Monkey-Pockie-Boo (1970), Linda Sharrock's vocal range equals that of Yoko Ono and Patty Waters from this period. In 2009 her creative output suffered as a result of a stroke but she has since pulled herself back into action and this latest two-hour studio jam session is the glorious result. Sprawled over six sides of black vinyl, Sharrock lets loose a sporadic chorusing of whoops and wails, accompanied by a group whose handle on free jazz improvisation is as much a product of New York's 1970s No Wave scene as the loft inspired fire music they are obviously attracted to. Organic, orgasmic and totally wild, the group's exhaustively adventurous playing perfectly compliments Sharrock's rolling, abstracted throat pulsations – taking her music to a higher plane that simultaneously succeeds in cementing her reputation as an avant-garde goddess.
