A kind of companion piece to Naked Truth's Shizaru, this project is very much bass man Feliciati's, evident from cuts like ‘Groove First’ that has his admirable, Pastorius-like chops to the fore. Most of the songs have the bass on lead, with the other guys laying down textures for Feliciati to play against, as on ‘Riding The Orient Express’. All perfectly reasonable, but the interplay and dynamics of Shizaru are subsequently less evident. Mintzer and Cuong Vu are only sporadically present, though their contributions always impress. ‘Footprints’ with three drummers and done as a fretless bass feature intrigues, but somewhere along the line, the project fails to ignite; more colours and contrast to Feliciati's undoubted skills may have helped. But all credit to Rare Noise who continue to plough what may seem an unfashionable furrow: prog jazz may be an ugly label, but the sounds sure ain't, especially when Cuong Vu gets all dreamy on ‘Never Forget.’
