Released to celebrate his half-century as a singer songwriter, this live album recorded in Rio's Miranda concert hall sees the Brazilian team up with vocalist Stacey Kent on a 15-track collection that traverses pop, bossa nova, MPB and jazz. From the fabulously rich modulations of ‘Look Who's Mine’ to the contemplative longing of ‘Drift Away’, Kent's complete attention to the lyrics, flawless intonation and feel for this material melts the heart. First heard on ‘The Face I Love’, Jim Tomlinson's tenor sax ‘fills us with sweet nostalgia for Stan Getz’, as Carlos Lyra puts it in the CD booklet notes. On songs such as the glacially paced ‘Passa Por Mim’ and the rhythmically charged ‘Batucada’, Kent's imaginative grasp of the music shines through. As well as airing her perfect French on ‘La Petite Valse’, we also hear Kent in a sun-kissed vocalise duet with Valle on ‘Pigmali o 70’, plus the brilliant, rapid-fire unison vocal riffs of ‘The Crickets’.
