Mazur's credentials need no questioning here: with a CV lit up by Miles, Gil Evans and Wayne Shorter, she won't be leafing through these pages for reassurance. So her meanderings into gentle, soft-rock-tinged world music meditations are very much her call. With its stripped down line up and production values, it's Cronhom's curlicued vocals that dominate Flamingo Sky, with Mazur generally content to lay sparkling patterns and rhythmic colours around Cronholm's lithe voice. There are darker meditations like ‘Aftenlys’, with Mazur's piano to the fore, and ‘Strange Spell’ with its rolling toms. But in general, the tone is a mazy mix of wistful wit (‘Eletelephony’ is winsome wordplay over a burning guitar) or ‘new age’ dub (‘The Butterfly’). Fans will be intrigued and Jonsonn and Mazur are never less than listenable, but there's little here to bring you back for repeated listens.
