This is the third album from Mr Mibbler, the Norwegian trio comprising musician-producer trio Thom Hell, Jørn Raknes and Vidar Ersfjord, and it’s quite a departure from its predecessor, The Long Journey, which was only released at the beginning of 2021. Leave Your Thoughts Here is a real lockdown album, in both conception and execution.

The trio reached out to 10 fellow musicians and asked them to record solo free improvisations to reflect their moods. Warned that ‘the resulting pieces of music will probably not be anything like what you are expecting!’, these brave guest contributors – from trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær and vocalist Anja Garbarek to harmonica player Sigmund Groven and DJ Lindstrøm – then submitted their musical thoughts to the Mibblers, who developed them as they saw fit before founder Hell took responsibility for the production and mixing.

The outcome of this experiment requiring great trust on the part of the guest contributors is a delight: given variety by the wide range of influences – by turns indebted to folk, club, jazz and more – it is unified by a dreamy mood. The tracks are all titled using the formula ‘X Meets Mr Mibbler’, and all the encounters are worth tuning in to.
