Though he managed to carve out a solo career while still a member of brother Cannonball's various quintets and sextets, in truth there was rarely a stampede at the check out for Nat's own albums. And while he can be a most interesting soloist (with a noticeable nod to Dizzy), somehow I doubt that, if not released by Avid in this four-LPs-on-two-CDs exploration in their series of public domain material, the original copyright owners would have seen fit to put them back in circulation.

Nevertheless, worthy of investigation is Introducing which comprises the two on-form brothers plus a formidable rhythm team of Horace Silver, Paul Chambers and Roy Haynes working out on eight originals co-penned by the brothers plus a solitary standard. Likewise, check out his interpretation of John Carisi's ‘Israel’ on Much Brass. Finally, should you be interested, check out the price – around six quid.
