Nina Simone-influenced vocalist Akina Adderley fronts a rather dreary, monochrome-sounding young Texas band with a lightweight blend of folk, pop and jazz influences. Not the ideal platform for the singer’s ominous lyrics, that reflect current social and gender issues.
