At one time or another Oscar Peterson threw his considerable (musical) might behind almost every jazz giant of note. Here it's Milt Jackson who guests with Oscar's 1961 trio. Though possessed with a phenomenal technique Oscar Peterson neither intimidated or steamrollered over his guests but as this, the first of a number of encounters (the pair would reconvene on Pablo in later years,) display an empathy which probably made him one of the finest accompanists ever. I take it on trust that you're fully acquainted with both players capabilities so all you need to know precisely what's on offer. Aside from the six tracks that constituted the original Verve LP we have a further two contrasting versions of the perennial ‘On Green Dolphin Street’, which opened this set, but this time it's by the trio minus Bags which were taped ‘live’ in both Chicago and Paris. Also included are two tugs of Bags’ ‘Heartstrings.’ One with Oscar, the other the 1957 Big Band original arranged by Quincy Jones. With the racks overfl owing with Peterson's performances, the choice is yours!
