Booth broadens his musical palette with this exploration of various musics that his expansive career has introduced him to. He's also tried to stay in touch with his audience by creating music suggested via social media. The results are reflected in the very title of the album: we have a patchwork of various cultural influences, including Irish on ‘Pipe Dream’, Brazilian on ‘Iemanja’ and ‘Quietude’ (a gorgeous Jobim tribute), and Afro-Peruvian (‘Lover's Thief’). It's all tastefully done, as you'd expect from Booth, and he's brought in musicians who fit the various vibes (Wilson's keys are particularly appropriate on the Latin stylings). Only problem is, there's just not enough of Booth himself! He's perky on the witty ‘Twitterbug Waltz’ and heartfelt on the closing ‘No Woman No Cry’. But the star of the likes of Trilateral is awol. However, if you enjoy smooth world vibes, Patchwork won't disappoint.
