The sense of close integration between the idiosyncratic singer-songwriter Paula Rae Gibson and her new partner Kit Downes, on piano and cello, on her fifth CD is a fresh approach that works very well; Downes’ intelligent, resonant semi-abstract sonic sculptures, at times recalling something of Sylvian, Eno or perhaps Feldman, curl invitingly around the singer’s naked personal lyrics and half-spoken, ethereal goth-ish vocals.
