This live (and lively) collaboration between German saxophonist Peter Brötzmann and Irish pianist Paul G Smyth kicks off with both musicians really going for it. On the long and weaving title track Brötzmann's feral blasts of squalling sax are caught up in the tight mesh of Smyth's equally ferocious piano stabbings. At certain points in the piece, the mood calms into an unidentifiable jazz standard, only to be whipped up seconds later by an even fiercer sonic assault. Both players are on fire here, fanning the flames of an improvisational encounter into a raging inferno of free music that seems inextinguishable.
Eventually this initial assault dies down, only to be replaced by ‘Falling Out of All The Towers Of Space’ with Brötzmann at his most lyrical while Smyth hammers respectfully behind him. Again the communication between both players is constant and rewarding, where a genuine creative bond between the duo tightens as the piece progresses. The set ends with ‘Eyes Wide’, another gorgeous gush of totally unpredictable interplay with Smyth's stinging keyboard attack sounding like he is playing his instrument with a nail gun.
Reinforced with Brötzmann's scattergun sax explosions, their playing tightly fuses together one last time before eventually drifting into an atmosphere laden spatial silence.
