Lavishly packaged, with impressive portraits of a range of Linka's guitars, shots from studio recordings and ample coverage of his family, this is a gift of love from Linka for 20 years in the biz. As the credits show, he's played and studied with some of the best, while his own hyper melodic style has devotees. Indeed, chameleon like, he's able to echo the styles of many of his contemporaries. His admiration for the likes of Hall, Abercrombie and Metheny is particularly strong. Linka's sheer musicality, a splendid technique and some top pals means he's eminently listenable. You wish, though, he'd make more of his Czech heritage. When he does, as on the joyous ‘Way Back’, an improvisation with fellow Czech Mraz, there's a sense of an original voice that all too rarely comes through elsewhere.
