Here's yet more proof, if it were needed, that Norway's young musicians are doing more than most to carry the baton of wideeyed experimentation first blown open by psychedelia and prog. This debut (produced by Jaga Jazzist's Andreas Mjøs) is very much a studio confection. ‘Linselus/Due’ opens the album with a rich tapestry of odd, skittering details: layers of submerged vocals, echoing accordion toots and trombone swoops, embedded in a driving riff that drops away into lingering nothingness. This relish for unconventional, wrong-footing structure and studio trickery is even more apparent on ‘Partylus’ – a postmodern cut-up collage that flings together samples and snippets of Fats Waller, The Prodigy and Astor Piazzolla, intercut with snatches of surf-rock, sweet strings, crystalline tones and a bar or two of Bob Dylan's ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ delivered in deadpan Norwegian accent. How they carry all this off on a live stage is anyone's guess.
