Corrosive flecks of acid-lined spittle pour forth from the jowls of Slobber Pup's sophomore summit, canonising mires of unholy cacophony in the flames of an oozy baptism. The inclusion of the ubiquitous Gustafsson into the fold has obviously done nothing to dim this unit's lustful din, another uproarious argot easily assimilated into the slavering row of their debut caper, 2013's Black Aces. All the pieces sound as if they've dosed up liberally on Street Trash trailer park liquor, passages slowly falling away from the bone in a continually fluxing mass of molten meat, disintegrating cadavers probed back into life by a battery of radical electrodes. But while the majority of Pole Axe ratchets up an exquisite and at times almost biblical row, the wonderfully named ‘Bring Me My Desire And Arrows To Shoot’ rallies around a blubbery calm, Morris’ guitar puncturing a bottlenose's blowhole serenade as the taunting, tension-building tones of Saft and Gustafsson prepare for the next canine-charged chomp.
