This replicates a number of tracks featuring the quintet that Getz toured with during 1952 (including guitarist Jimmy Raney and Bird's former pianist Duke Jordan), that I recently reviewed on a compilation entitled Autumn Leaves. A more appealing release Plays comprises all the excellent material with which Getz first opened his account with Norman Granz and is augmented with tracks by the same lineup recorded for Roost. Again, the repertoire is American Songbook derived and, as such doesn’t disappoint. This also applies to the contributions made throughout by Raney and Jordan. Not to be ignored.
