Four double basses (two in each channel) plus tuba in the centre – that's the kind of lineup I could get into. Lead bassist/composer Mezei has created seven lengthy pieces which are quite challenging, but also rewarding. An unusual pleasure – and, as his sleevenotes attest, Alexander Hawkins is a fan!
